Germany Backs US Strikes Against Iran: ‘Legitimate to Prevent Nuclear Arms’

Germany expressed its understanding of the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, as stated by Foreign Minister Joachim Wandtfohl on Sunday evening (June 22, 2025). Wandtfohl reiterated Germany’s commitment, along with France and the UK, to finding a diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear crisis. ‘It was legitimate to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and the US clearly felt compelled to take this step,’ Wandtfohl said in an interview with German public broadcaster ARD. He added that Iran had crossed a red line regarding uranium enrichment and violated its promises. However, the German Foreign Minister avoided answering questions about whether the military action taken by the US complies with international law. He emphasized that no one supports the continuation of military conflict but refrained from fully endorsing the developments.
