A multi-vehicle collision involving a motorhome left 34 people injured on a highway in Thuringia, Germany, on Saturday, 25 July 2026. The incident occurred when the motorhome struck several vehicles that had come to a standstill in a traffic jam.
Children among the injured
Among those injured were numerous children. According to a spokesperson for German police, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Chain-reaction crash
The driver of the motorhome — which carried two children — reportedly failed to notice the congestion ahead and collided at speed with the stationary vehicles. In total, nine vehicles sustained serious damage, including two small buses carrying 11 children with special needs and eight caregivers.
Damage and cause of traffic jam
Police estimated the total damage at approximately €350,000. The traffic jam that preceded the crash was caused by an earlier accident in the opposite direction: a horse transport trailer had overturned, halting traffic on that section of the motorway.
