Georgia Meloni for co-operation with Albania in immigration: I received death threats because I signed

‘ I accepted death threats,” Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said late Wednesday night (30.10.2024) for signing co-operation with Albania on immigration. Speaking on Italian public television, RAI, Georgia Meloni revealed that “for the first time, I received death threats, because I signed the protocol of cooperation with Albania on immigration.” “I will do everything I can to achieve tangible results for this cooperation,” added Italy’s Prime Minister, with reference to the two Italian closed centres for asylum seekers, which have been created in northern Albania. “If we continue to follow this course, I will state that Italy is not a safe country after all. When some claim it for Bangladesh – we are talking about 180 million people – it is like calling them “come comfortably to Italy”. Some people have set themselves as a target to prevent the fight against irregular immigration,” the head of the Italian government stressed. In its view, the decision of the Bologna judges to ask the EU court to rule on the legislative decree of the Government of Rome, which concerns the safe countries of origin of immigrants, “looks more like a propaganda pamphlet than a judicial document.” Commenting on the decision of two of the country’s three largest unions, CGIL and UIL, to declare a general strike against the state budget draft for November 29, Meloni accused trade unions of “prejudiced conduct”. Finally, he added that “this announcement of recourse to a general strike was made a few days before their meeting with the government, on the draft budget of 2025”.
