George Tsounis, who served as US Ambassador to Athens from May 2022, gave an interview with ANT1 and Maria Sarafoglu. CORVERSE Upon completion of the interview, George Papadakis entered the studio with a plate of Thessaloniki bagels, a favorite bond of the outgoing ambassador. “I like these very much and I will take them all” George Tunis commented smilingly, accepting George Papadakis’ gift. As for his favorite food, he revealed it’s the fish soup. CORVERSE See the quote from 16:10 of the video: Asked about his Greek origins Mr. Tsounis said that his Greek parents as immigrants went through very difficult situations in order to help him study and urged every young man to try to take every opportunity to achieve the best possible in his life. Speaking of his own family he stressed how important it was for his children to receive Greek education and how difficult it will now be for them to say goodbye to Greece. His love for Greece and his separation from it moved him particularly at the end of the interview, when Antonis Remos’ great success played “The heart takes me”.
