Standing tall and victorious after his personal health battle, George Milonakis — Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister — returned to Athens’ Evangelismos Hospital. But this time, he wasn’t there as a patient. As he shared in a heartfelt social media post, he went back to express profound gratitude to the medical team and staff who stood by him during one of the most difficult periods of his life.

A Message of Gratitude and Humanity

In his emotional post, Milonakis wrote: “Two months ago, I fought the hardest battle of my life. Today, I return to Evangelismos — not as a patient, but to say a deep, heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the people who stood beside me: doctors, nurses, paramedics, support staff, and the hospital’s administration. To everyone who, day in and day out, quietly gives their very best — with selflessness and dedication — for every person who walks through the hospital’s doors.”

He continued: “Science saves lives. But humanity, empathy, and solidarity are what give us the courage to overcome hardship and find the strength to keep going. I feel deep gratitude toward everyone who supported me on this difficult journey. I also want to thank my family — for standing by me with love, strength, and tireless support at every step. And to my friends, and all those who held me in their thoughts, sent a message, or offered a prayer: that love gave me the strength to carry on.”

A Hard-Won Recovery

Milonakis, a close collaborator of the Prime Minister, suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm on April 15, 2026, during a morning coffee at the Maximos Mansion. He was rushed immediately to Evangelismos Hospital, where he underwent emergency endovascular coiling surgery and remained intubated in the ICU. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to a specialized rehabilitation center in Germany before returning to Greece at the end of May.

Concluding his message, Milonakis reflected: “Some battles aren’t won by one person alone — they’re won together. Health is our most precious asset, and nothing about it should ever be taken for granted.”
