George Gerapetritis for the beginning of Greece’s tenure as a permanent member of the UN Security Council

“Greece becomes, in practice, a co-producer of international policy on global security architecture with an essential reason, role and responsibility in global developments”. This underlines, among other things, the beginning of our country’s tenure as a permanent member of the UN. In his message, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis says that “as of today, January 1, 2025, Greece assumes, at a particularly critical juncture, the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. CORVERSE In practice, Greece becomes a co-producer of international security architecture policy with an essential reason, role and responsibility in global developments. Focused on the exercise of foreign political principles and values and International Law, Greece looks forward to serving as a stabilising factor, being the bridge between North and South, East and West and helping restore the true meaning of the imperative for peaceful settlement of disputes. In order to defend the purpose of the Agency, that is, to unite all nations in order to work for peace, we will be making bilateral and multilateral synergies with all the United Nations countries, promoting multilateral diplomacy and the principles of the United Nations Charter during our two-year term of office,” the Foreign Minister concludes.
