Greek infrastructure and industrial group GEK Terna has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with German defence company Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH to strengthen Greece’s domestic defence industry. The move follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties in the fourth quarter of 2025, and marks the transition to a long-term, binding strategic agreement.

A Partnership Combining Regional Strength and Global Expertise

The agreement unites GEK Terna’s leadership in critical infrastructure, energy, and complex industrial systems across Southeastern Europe with Rheinmetall’s world-class portfolio of land-based defence systems and advanced technologies. It establishes an industrial partnership expected to generate significant domestic added value—bolstering national capabilities and fostering homegrown technical expertise.

Building Integrated Defence Solutions for Greece

By combining their respective know-how, the two companies aim to meet evolving operational requirements of the Hellenic Armed Forces. Their joint efforts will focus on developing reliable, high-quality integrated defence solutions—supporting Greece’s long-term growth of a sovereign defence industrial ecosystem.

Key Objectives

The collaboration targets several priorities: enhancing the Hellenic Armed Forces’ cutting-edge capabilities—particularly through new tactical land systems; upgrading existing equipment while providing full lifecycle support; and systematically building resilient industrial capacity within Greek Army facilities, with active participation from Greek small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Ultimately, the partnership seeks to reinforce Greece’s operational autonomy and ensure that critical defence capabilities remain at a high level of readiness and performance throughout their entire service life.
