A warehouse belonging to the United Nations World Food Programme was looted yesterday, Wednesday (28/5/25), by thousands of Palestinians in Deir al-Balah, in the Gaza Strip. Witnesses from the French Press Agency (AFP) reported that nothing was left behind as crowds carried away sacks of food and even wooden pallets. Gunfire was reportedly heard during the raid. According to AFP plans, hordes of starving people stormed the warehouse searching for pre-sorted food supplies intended for distribution. The World Food Programme (WFP) issued a statement urging for ‘safe and unhindered humanitarian access to ensure immediate and smooth food distribution’ in the Gaza Strip while investigating reports of at least two deaths and several injuries during the incident. Israel accused the UN on Wednesday of trying to ‘block’ aid distribution in Gaza following 600 days of military operations. However, the UN emphasizes it is doing everything possible to deliver limited humanitarian aid approved by Israeli authorities.
