Israel is preparing its response following Hamas’ announcement that it is ready to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza. According to local civil defense services, 35 people were killed during Israeli military operations on Saturday (05.07.2025) in Gaza. An Israeli government official stated at noon that ‘no decision has yet been made’ regarding the matter. Local media reported that Israel’s security council was set to meet on Sunday evening, after the conclusion of Shabbat (Sabbath rest). Hamas announced yesterday that it is willing to begin negotiations on a ceasefire proposal backed by the U.S. and transmitted through Qatar and Egypt.
The Ceasefire Proposal
According to two Palestinian sources, the proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire during which Hamas would release ten living hostages and hand over some hostage remains in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. Hamas reportedly insists on conditions including the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, guarantees against renewed conflict during negotiations, and the assignment of humanitarian aid distribution to the UN and recognized international organizations.
Donald Trump, who will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, July 7th, stated that an agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached ‘next week.’
