Palestinian officials and witnesses reported the death of a hospital director during an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday night (02.07.2025). The Indonesian Hospital’s director was among those killed following an Israeli military raid targeting northern Gaza. According to family member Ahmed al-Sultani, Marwan al-Sultani was found dead in his apartment in Gaza City along with his wife, daughters, and one of his sons-in-law. His body was later transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital, confirmed by hospital director Mohamed Abu Salimiyah, who added that the victim’s face was unrecognizable and identification was extremely difficult. The Medical Emergency Rescue Committee, an Indonesian NGO that established the hospital in 2016, condemned the killing as a serious breach of humanitarian principles and called for justice. Hamas also denounced the incident as a ‘heinous crime’ in a press release, echoing initial reports from Gaza’s Civil Defense which cited seven casualties, including the doctor, from the early evening strike. When questioned by AFP about civilian casualties, the Israeli military stated it was investigating claims that non-combatants were injured, while asserting it had targeted a significant Hamas terrorist in the area without providing further details.
