At least five people, including a 9-year-old girl, were killed on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in new Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health officials.
A Child Killed in Tent Camp Strike
Rescue workers said the girl, 9-year-old Tala Abu Matar, was killed by Israeli fire that struck a tent camp on the eastern edge of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The Israeli military has not issued an immediate statement regarding the child’s death.
Four More Killed in Airstrike on Metalworks Facility
Four others died in an Israeli airstrike targeting a metalworks facility in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City. Eyewitnesses reported the building was hit by three Israeli missiles. The Israeli Defense Forces told Reuters the site was a “terrorist infrastructure” but provided no further details about the operation.
Violence Continues Despite Ceasefire Agreement
These latest casualties come despite a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, which formally ended large-scale military operations in Gaza. Since the truce took effect, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, while four Israeli soldiers have died in armed attacks launched from Gaza during the same period.
Cairo Talks Underway Amid Stalled Progress
The developments coincide with renewed negotiations in Cairo, where a Hamas delegation is meeting to discuss implementation of the second phase of a U.S.-backed peace plan for Gaza championed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Reuters sources, talks are focusing on key issues such as Hamas’s disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza — though no significant progress has been reported so far.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire. Nearly all of its approximately two million residents have been repeatedly displaced since the war began. Most now live in makeshift camps or in damaged buildings along a narrow coastal strip still under Hamas control.
