For the second time, the Hellenic Air Force demonstrated its operational readiness during a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) mission off the island of Gavdos. A Super Puma helicopter carried out the operation on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

Rescue from Merchant Vessel

According to a social media post by the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, the aircraft evacuated an injured person from the cargo vessel Great W, located approximately 40 nautical miles south of Gavdos — a small, remote Greek island southwest of Crete.

Transfer to Chania Hospital

The patient was transported directly to the General Hospital of Chania for urgent medical care. The mission was executed by personnel of the 384th Search and Rescue Squadron.

Public Release of Footage

Footage of the operation has been released publicly, showcasing the precision and coordination involved in such maritime MEDEVAC missions. The video highlights the capabilities of the Super Puma — a twin-engine medium-lift helicopter widely used by the Hellenic Air Force for search-and-rescue and medical transport roles.
