G7 Supports Israel’s ‘Right’ to ‘Defend Itself’ and Labels Iran as a Regional Instability Source

The leaders of the G7 have expressed support for Israel’s right to ‘defend itself,’ while simultaneously issuing a joint statement opposing the acquisition of nuclear weapons by Iran. In their announcement following the summit of the seven most industrialized countries in western Canada, Iran is labeled as the ‘main source of instability and terrorism’ in the Middle East region. The leaders of the seven states (USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada) emphasize that Iran ‘can never possess a nuclear weapon’ and stress the security of Israel. They call for ‘broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.’
