Free App ‘Ksou Ksou’ Repels Mosquitoes and Cockroaches with Sound

in

The first Greek mobile applications that allow users to repel mosquitoes and cockroaches with a single button press are now available. ‘Ksou Ksou’ and ‘KatsaridoKsouKsou,’ created by Larissa-based developer Christos Apostolou, are user-friendly and suitable for all ages. By pressing a button, the app activates an audio file from the device’s speaker at frequencies inaudible to humans but highly irritating to insects. The app also uses the screen as a mosquito attractant with moving colors, allowing users to eliminate them manually if needed. According to ert.gr, the app generates sounds ranging from 12Hz to 40kHz. While humans may perceive frequencies above 22Hz, lower frequencies are particularly annoying to mosquitoes. Studies have shown that low-frequency sounds repel certain species of mosquitoes, such as Aedes diantaeus NDK. Experiments indicate that most mosquitoes avoid sounds in the 140–200 Hz range, fleeing within seconds. Ultrasonic sounds have proven effective against many mosquito species, and research confirms that using cricket sounds can control mosquito populations. For cockroaches, high-frequency sounds and vibrations can deter them, although comprehensive solutions often require a combination of methods.
