At least two people have lost their lives in recent days in France due to the extreme heat, according to government officials. The June of 2025 was recorded as the second hottest ever in France’s history, which is currently facing a prolonged and unusually early heatwave, with exceptionally high temperatures for the season.

“The June of 2025 was the second hottest since records began in 1900, following the June of 2023,” stated the Minister of Ecological Transition, Aminée Panié-Rinachér, at a press briefing. The temperature this past June was 3.3°C higher than the normal average, while in June 2023 it was 3.6°C above average.

In addition, Panié-Rinachér noted that two people had died “due to heat-related illnesses.” She explained, “More than 300 people have been transported by firefighters to hospital emergency departments, and two have died due to heat-induced ailments.”

This alarming situation highlights the growing risks associated with climate change and extreme weather events across Europe.
