The Race Of Champions, wherever it takes place, draws the attention of motorsport enthusiasts eager to witness the top names in racing up close. This year, the 33rd edition of the Race Of Champions was held in Australia for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere, specifically at the Accor Stadium in Sydney, featuring 20 superstar drivers from F1, World Rallying, Supercars, Rallycross, NASCAR, Extreme E, and Dakar. Similar to the special circuit of the Acropolis Rally in 2005, which took place at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, a 1 km asphalt track was created inside Sydney’s stadium. The French team won their third Race Of Champions ROC Nations Cup in an exciting final against the reigning Supercars team from Australia. France ranks second in victories, behind Germany with eight wins. In the individual championship battle, nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb once again proved why he is considered one of the greatest drivers of all time by securing his fifth Race Of Champions title (2003, 2005, 2008, 2022). Loeb defeated Chad Masters in the final, driving first a Polaris RZR and then an FC2 Rallycross car. Drivers used various vehicles including FC2 Rallycross, Supercar Lite Rallycross, KTM X-Bow Comp R, Polaris RZR Pro R, Subaru BRZ tS, and Toyota GR86 Cup. Notable participants included Finnish Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas, David Coulthard and Colin McRae’s team from Great Britain, among many other legends.
