France: A 5.5% budget deficit targets the new Finance Minister

Eric Lombard’s Finance Minister said the country’s situation is “serious”, adding that it sets a deficit target for 2025 in the range of 5% to 5.5% of gross domestic product (GDP). Lombard also told France Inter radio that the budget deficit would be “probably” around 6.1% in 2024. He added that the budget of 2025 now sets a target of EUR 50 billion in savings, adding that the heads of French companies are concerned that France has no budget for 2025 yet. CORVERSE France hopes to reach an agreement on the budget next month, said Ameli de Monsalin, the budget minister responsible. “The goal is to have a budget during the month of February, so that by the end of February at the latest, French citizens can come out of this uncertainty and impasse, nor that citizens, such as farmers and others, can have greater clarity,” Monsalin told French television station France 2
