France: 88 migrants rescued trying to cross the English Channel

The 88 rescued migrants off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France as they tried to reach the shores of England in three boats, as reported by the port authorities.

Since the end of 2018, the number of people trying to cross the English Channel to reach Britain has increased.

In 2020, more than 9.500 attempts were recorded, ie four times more than in 2019. Six people lost their lives and three remain missing, while in 2019 the death toll rose to four.
