In a six-month prison sentence with parole for two years Hugh Edwards’ former news star was convicted of possessing obscene photographs of children on his cell phone thereby bailing out the prison. The photos were sent to a pedophile with which former BBC host Hugh Edwards allegedly maintained a relationship. While the judge described his actions as “extremely serious offences”, he concluded that Edwards is not a threat to children. Former BBC presenter had pleaded guilty to three charges, as he held obscene images of children, after paedophile Alex Williams sent him 41 images via WhatsApp. Specifically Edwards paid up to £150 to a pedophile who sent him 41 images from December 2020 to August 2021, seven of which were serious. Of these images, the estimated age of most children was between 13 and 15 years old, but one was between seven and nine years old. Condemning him, Chief Justice Paul Goldspring told Edwards that “his reputation has now collapsed”. At the same time the court imposed on Edwards mandatory monitoring of a sexual rehabilitation program.
