A foreign national was arrested on Saturday afternoon (25 July) in central Athens after grenades were found in his possession, authorities confirmed.

The operation followed actionable intelligence received by Greek law enforcement. According to reports, the Hellenic Police’s Special Anti-Terrorist Unit — sometimes informally referred to as Greece’s ‘FBI’ — had been alerted that the suspect, an Egyptian national, was due to receive explosive devices. He was placed under discreet surveillance shortly thereafter.
Surveillance and Arrest
Officers monitored his movements for an extended period and moved in immediately after he took possession of the grenades. The devices were reportedly handed over in the southern suburbs of Attica before the suspect travelled into central Athens, where he was apprehended.
