An example from the United Kingdom shows how technology can if not prevent a vehicle theft, at least the owner finding it again, by leading these systems. A bartender from the United Kingdom, who had a Ford Transit packaged with personalized folding bars to help serve drinks at events, while preparing for a reception, stole the vehicle with all the necessary equipment and a specially designed pop-up bar with a gold finish of a total value of £15,000. And while the bartender found a way not to lose the job, renting equipment, Ford Pro found a way for the bartender to find his vehicle again, with police assistance. Through Ford Pro Telematics, the bartender discovered his Transit in Nottingham, hundreds of kilometers away from where he was at the time, with police bringing back the van. The locks were repaired and then Transit was thrown back into slavery within just two weeks of its theft. It is worth noting that the issue of vehicle theft is crucial, which affects companies using van vehicles. These businesses contributed around 1 trillion euros to the economies of the EU and the United Kingdom only for 2023. For Ford Pro, fighting this issue is an absolute priority, with the company offering reinforced steering locks as well as a number of digital monitoring and protection systems, which operate through the built-in vehicle modem. These systems include, inter alia, notices in case the doors are breached, when the van is used outside the specified time or if it is moved without the engine being started – something that happens when a van vehicle is stolen and towed. Plus, the Ford Pro Telematics security system can also lock and unlock doors from a distance.
