The…
baby wipes there are in almost every home with small children, as it is convenient to clean when get dirty. But it looks like maybe, finally, this product may not be the most secure option for your child, and can cause harm to children’s skin.
In a study of 2014, published by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the researchers, led by Dr. Mary Wu Chang of the Medical school of the University of Connecticut, discovered that a particular brand μωρομάντηλων can cause severe allergic reactions in children.
The controversial brand belongs to the manufacturer Kimberly-Clark. The ingredient that causes the rash is called μεθυλισοθειαζολινόνη, used as a preservative in the wipes.
The first incident was that of an 8-year-old girl who had presented a very intense and aggressive rash around his mouth and on the buttocks. Initially, she was treated with antibiotics and steroids. Every time I received the treatment, there was improvement, but after some time the rash appeared again.
The teacher has begun to investigate the medical history of small, looking for any allergies. The intrigue, especially the points where he had the rash appears in the mouth and buttocks of the girl. For this and asked her mother, what she used to cleanse the skin of the child.
The mother said she uses baby wipes for the local cleaning of the child. Then, the teacher remembered the recent case of a Vietnamese guy, who had shown a skin reaction to a chemical preservative μεθυλοϊσοθειαζολινόνης (MI), which is contained in baby wipes, and other cleaning products.
The professor examined the little girl for an allergy to a specific substance and the test came out positive. When the girl’s mother stopped using baby wipes, the rash gradually disappeared!
Within the next 22 months, the 5 children went to University medical center with similar rashes, which is also eliminated when the parents discontinued the use of μωρομάντηλων.
The spokesperson of the company μωρομάντηλων said about the incidents: “While our products remain safe for use, we recognize that recent studies raise concern for the use of μεθυλοϊσοθειαζολινόνης as a preservative component. We evaluate other alternative ways in the last few years, and we confirm that the company Kimberly-Clark launches new baby wipes don’t contain any methylisothiazolinone in the markets of America, Canada, Europe and elsewhere.”
It is important to remember that there may be other allergens in the baby wipes, in addition to the methylisothiazolinone, and additional research is needed. If your child develops any allergic reaction to any product, stop use immediately and visit your doctor.
