Age may bring wisdom—but not always behind the wheel. In Lake County, Florida, an 85-year-old man named Williams Bosworth found himself in hot water after being caught allegedly street racing at speeds exceeding 177 km/h (110 mph) on a road with a posted limit of just 72 km/h (45 mph). The incident occurred late on June 12, 2026, near the town of Leesburg—about an hour northwest of Orlando.

A High-Speed Encounter on a Public Road

An officer from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office recorded Bosworth’s black Nissan 350Z Cabrio overtaking and closely tailing a red Chevrolet Corvette in what appeared to be a high-speed duel—not on a racetrack, but on a public highway. Bodycam footage shows Bosworth sitting calmly behind the wheel, smoking a small cigar, as the officer informs him he was clocked at 110 mph—while the Corvette reached 125 mph (roughly 201 km/h).

“Just Enjoying a Drive”—Or Something More?

Bosworth claimed he was simply “enjoying a drive” in his favorite car—and insisted the Corvette driver “cut him off,” prompting him to accelerate only to create distance. He denied any intent to race, telling the officer: “I never meant to cause trouble for anyone, and I don’t want trouble.”

The officer remained unconvinced. “Listen, Mr. Bosworth—I wasn’t born yesterday,” he said. “I know what street racing looks like when I see it. You were racing.”

Even after being read Florida’s strict law targeting “excessively fast drivers”—which applies to anyone traveling 50 mph or more over the speed limit—Bosworth maintained: “I did not street race.” The officer responded dryly: “Fine—you can call it street racing, highway racing, or a road race. Whatever you call it, we don’t allow it here in Lake County.”

Arrests and Charges

Bosworth was arrested for reckless driving at over 100 mph and for participating in an illegal speed contest. Minutes later, he was placed in handcuffs.

Further down the same stretch of road, another officer stopped and arrested the 57-year-old Corvette driver, Philip Siniorino, on identical charges. Both men denied racing, posted bond, and are awaiting court proceedings.

In Florida, driving 50 mph or more above the speed limit is a felony offense—carrying potential jail time, steep fines, and license revocation. Authorities say such incidents reflect a growing concern over illegal speed contests in rural and suburban areas across the state.
