The student team ‘Pyroneers’ made history by representing Greece for the first time at the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), the world’s premier and most demanding educational robotics contest. Held in March in Istanbul, the competition gathered teams from countries such as China, India, Turkey, and Switzerland. Despite being newcomers to this category, the ‘Pyroneers’ stood out at the FRC competition, winning one of the six major awards for engineering, creativity, and innovation—the ‘Creativity Award’ sponsored by Rockwell Automation. Facing strong teams from countries with a strong tradition in robotics, the Greek team impressed the judges with their strategic approach. Their design, construction, and programming were characterized by industrial-level quality and innovation. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international event that combines the excitement of sports with the rigor of science and technology. High school students, guided by mentor students, design, program, and build industrial-grade robots to compete on a thematic field, promoting appreciation for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in their communities. The success of the ‘Pyroneers’ demonstrates the dedication and talent of Greek students in robotics and serves as inspiration for the youth in our country. Their achievement highlights Greece’s potential on the global map of educational robotics, technology, and innovation.
