High fire danger is expected across several regions of Greece on Friday, September 19, as weather conditions create a significant risk for wildfire outbreaks. According to the fire risk forecast map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, eight regions face elevated fire hazards. These areas include Attica and Kythira, Argolis, Corinthia, Messinia, Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Lesvos, Chios, Psara, Samos, Ikaria, Skyros, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos, Evia, Boeotia, Achaia, Elis, Arcadia, and Laconia. The General Secretariat has alerted relevant state services, regional authorities, and municipalities to remain on high alert and ready to respond swiftly to any fire incidents. Citizens are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid outdoor activities that could accidentally spark fires, such as burning dry vegetation, using spark-producing tools like chainsaws or welding equipment, operating outdoor grills, beekeeping with flames, or discarding lit cigarettes. Additionally, field burning remains strictly prohibited during the fire season. In case of spotting a wildfire, the public is advised to immediately contact the Fire Service at 199.
