The Hellenic Fire Service has arrested two individuals for wildfires caused by negligence in Laconia and Achaea. According to authorities, both fires were triggered during agricultural operations without the required fire safety precautions.

Laconia Incident

In the first case, the Laconia Regional Fire Service responded to a rural fire near the area of Ligriba, in the community of Klada, within the municipality of Sparta. Investigators determined that a 77-year-old man ignited the blaze while carrying out hot asphalt-laying work on farmland — without implementing mandatory fire prevention measures. He was arrested on the spot under Greece’s expedited legal procedure and fined €2,320.30.

Achaea Incident

In the second case, the Achaea Regional Fire Service arrested a 51-year-old man at 5:48 p.m. today following a rural fire in the Saravali area of Achaea. Authorities confirmed he caused the fire during agricultural operations involving a tractor and a harrow, again without adhering to prescribed fire safety protocols.
