A major fire continues to burn at a plastic manufacturing facility in Aigaleo, Athens, now entering its 17th hour since breaking out at midday on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. Firefighting teams remain on site today, 24 June 2026, battling to fully extinguish the blaze.

According to ERT, the fire persists due to the enormous volume of highly flammable materials stored in the factory’s warehouses and production areas. Dense black smoke continues to rise, and air quality in the wider area remains severely compromised.

Heavy firefighting units are conducting continuous water spraying operations at the site. Due to ongoing flare-ups and active suppression efforts, traffic has been suspended on Orfeos Street — specifically the stretch from Agias Annis Street toward Kifissou Avenue — in Aigaleo.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. A preliminary investigation is underway by investigative officers from the Hellenic Fire Service.

The fire originated on the building’s first floor. All personnel evacuated safely with no injuries reported. However, thick, acrid smoke filled the area as large quantities of plastic burned inside the structure. In a dramatic moment, the intense thermal load caused the factory’s roof to collapse — yet firefighters continued their efforts without interruption.
