The fire that broke out early Thursday afternoon (May 22, 2025) on Anafi is showing signs of improvement by evening. The situation has stabilized as the fire is now partially under control. Seven firefighters from the 1st EMODE (Special Forest Operations Units) participated in extinguishing the blaze, arriving by helicopter. They were joined by six firefighters from Santorini via a Coast Guard vessel. Efforts to contain the fire involved volunteers and water trucks from local municipalities and communities. Strong winds in the area posed challenges but did not prevent progress in controlling the flames.
