Fire Near Sitia: Houses in Peril, Firefighters Respond Promptly

An emergency alert was raised in Lasithi, prompting immediate action from the Fire Department. Flames approached homes in the Petras community. The fire broke out late yesterday evening (April 30, 2025) in a reed-filled area near the Petras settlement in Sitia. Eight firefighting vehicles with 32 firefighters and a team from EMODE (Special Forest Operations Unit) rushed to the scene. As of this hour (approximately 00:00), the fire is under control. The wildfire occurred close to a residential area. Fortunately, the risk of the fire spreading to houses was avoided due to the swift intervention of the Fire Department.
