A wildfire broke out this afternoon (July 6, 2026) around 12:00 p.m. in an agricultural-forestry area in the Lasithi region of Ierapetra, Crete—near the Bramiana Dam. At 12:29 p.m., Greece’s emergency number 112 issued an alert urging residents of the Bramiana settlement to evacuate immediately toward Ierapetra.

Large-Scale Response Under Challenging Conditions

To tackle the blaze, authorities deployed 49 firefighters—including two ground teams from the 3rd Emergency Response Unit (EMODE), 13 vehicles, and two helicopters. Additional support came from municipal water tankers (OTA units).

Early reports indicate strong winds—reaching up to 7 on the Beaufort scale—are hampering containment efforts. The area is classified as having a very high fire risk (Level 4), prompting the Lasithi Arson Investigation Team to deploy to the site to determine the cause of the fire.

The 112 alert read: “Forest fire in the Bramiana area of Ierapetra. If you are in Bramiana, evacuate immediately toward Ierapetra.” Residents are advised to follow official instructions and monitor updates from emergency services.
