A 45-year-old foreign national has been arrested by the fire department on charges of arson through negligence related to a wildfire in the Livari area of Vourvourou, part of the municipality of Sithonia in Halkidiki. Authorities arrived at the arrest following evidence collected by the Investigative Department of the Halkidiki Fire Service, as well as witness statements, according to reports from voria.gr.
During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly fell into multiple contradictions while being questioned by firefighting personnel. The man was allegedly carrying out work involving wood products when the fire broke out. He was later taken before the Public Prosecutor of Polygyros.
The wildfire, which required extensive efforts from both ground and aerial units, is now considered under control with no active fronts remaining.
