The wildfire that broke out yesterday (03.07.2025) in Rafina quickly escalated, leaving behind ashes, destruction, and despair. Beyond Rafina, the fire also affected Pikermi and Spata, with on-site inspections set to begin today. According to the mayor of Spata, Dimitris Markou, at least 5-6 homes and several vehicles were destroyed, while dozens more properties suffered serious damage. As reported by ERT, in the Oikodomi Kositerios Syndesmos TEBE area near Imeros Peukos, at least 2-3 homes were completely destroyed, with another three sustaining significant material damage. There were also damages to warehouses, tiled-roof structures, and other auxiliary spaces, prompting evacuation orders for the settlements of Agia Kyriaki, Eto Styko, Imeros Peukos, and Vounopoli. The fire department and police rescued 57 citizens, evacuated 365 preemptively, and saved 22 animals. A 77-year-old man with mobility issues was transferred to the Rafina Health Center as a precaution. According to the Fire Department, the fire spread from Agia Kyriaki and, due to strong winds, reached the top of the mountain in the Eto area within seven minutes. A total of 170 firefighters, 48 vehicles, 14 aircraft, and 7 helicopters, supported by the army and the Attica Region, participated in the firefighting operation. Air support played a crucial role on Mount Eto, where ground vehicles could not access. As of this morning, strong firefighting forces remained in Rafina and surrounding areas due to the risk of re-ignition.
