in

Under control by early Tuesday morning (01.07.2025), a large fire broke out in the courtyard of a factory in Megara, engulfing plastic frames in flames. Due to strong winds, the fire spread inside the facility, almost completely destroying it. At 9:30 PM, an alert was sent via the 112 emergency system advising residents to remain indoors and close doors and windows due to smoke. The message read: «Fire ongoing at a plastics factory in the industrial zone of the Municipality of Megares. Smoke across the broader area, remain indoors, close doors and windows. Follow the instructions of the Authorities.» Firefighters deployed to the scene included 34 personnel with 16 vehicles. Strong firefighting forces remain on-site to extinguish any remaining hotspots, as the risk of re-ignition remains high. Traffic diversions were implemented on roads adjacent to the factory and in front of the Panachrantou Monastery in the Megara region. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is being conducted by the responsible authorities.
