After 8 PM on Wednesday (02.07.2025), firefighting forces were reinforced in their battle against the wildfire in the area of Drymonas, Kythira. According to an updated announcement by the Fire Service, 30 firefighters are currently involved in operations, supported by two groups of ground crews, volunteers, and eight vehicles.
Additionally, a team of 15 firefighters with one group of ground crews and four vehicles arrived via ship from Neapoli, Lakonia. Two aircraft and three helicopters conducted water drops until sunset to assist in containing the blaze.
Forces have been strengthened further in the forested area of Drymonas, Kythira, where 30 firefighters, two ground teams, volunteers, eight vehicles, two planes, and three helicopters are now engaged in suppression efforts. Further reinforcements are arriving by sea from Neapoli, including 15 personnel, one pedestrian unit, and four vehicles.
Meanwhile, a specialized arson investigation unit is already on site to determine the cause of the fire. Earlier, an alert was issued via the 112 emergency system advising people at Melidoni Beach in Kythira to evacuate the area and move towards Drymonas, following official instructions.
