Firefighters are struggling to contain rekindlings at the major fire front that started on Wednesday (July 2, 2025) and continues to rage due to stormy winds sweeping through the region. Shortly after 2 PM, a message was sent via the 112 emergency service advising residents and tourists located in the four affected areas to evacuate immediately from Katharades, Fermá, Koutsounari, and Kakia Skala Lasithiou and proceed toward Ierapetra.
The 112 alert stated: ‘Forest fire in your area. If you are in Katharades, Fermá, Koutsounari, or Kakia Skala Lasithiou, please move away from the danger zones toward Ierapetra.’
Authorities have urged people to follow official instructions and remain calm as firefighting operations continue. Emergency crews are working tirelessly amid challenging weather conditions to protect homes and infrastructure.
