Fire in Evia: 52-Year-Old Suspect to Appear Before Investigating Judge on Sunday

The 52-year-old man arrested for starting a devastating fire in the Mesochoria area of Karystos, Evia, will appear before the investigating judge this Sunday (06.07.2025). Authorities detained him early Saturday (05.07.2025), following an investigation by the Fire Department. According to reports, the suspect is a foreign national who was carrying out cleaning work with a brush cutter. As stated in an announcement from the Fire Service, ‘he was arrested today under summary proceedings by officers from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) in cooperation with investigative officers from the Chalkida Fire Department, for negligent arson on agricultural and forest land, violating existing legislation, in the Mesochoria area of Karystos municipality, Evia. An administrative fine of €8,775 was imposed.’ The suspect remains in custody and will be presented to the competent investigating judge on Sunday.
