The 52-year-old Albanian-origin suspect involved in a major wildfire that erupted on the afternoon of July 4th in Mesochoria Karystos, southern Evia, was taken to the Chalkida courts. According to reports from eviaonline.gr, the man, who was carrying out brush-cutting work, caused sparks that led to the devastating fire. After realizing the fire had started, he reportedly fled the area and sought refuge in Athens to avoid arrest. He spent the night at his son’s house, but the Hellenic Police’s Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) swiftly intervened and arrested him. During police questioning, his wife initially admitted his involvement, and shortly after, the man himself confessed to the act.
