Fire in Chania: Two Helicopters Deployed – Civil Protection Message to Residents to Stay Alert

A wildfire broke out in an agricultural and forested area in the Agriles region of Chania, Crete, early Friday morning (July 4, 2025). A total of 36 firefighters, including a team from the 19th Rapid Intervention Unit, 13 vehicles, and two helicopters have been mobilized to contain the blaze. Strong winds are complicating firefighting efforts in the area. The Civil Protection Agency has issued a message urging residents to remain in readiness and follow official instructions. ‘Forest fire in the Agriles area of the Chania Regional Unit. Stay alert and follow the instructions of the authorities,’ reads the official warning.
