An apartment was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out early Sunday morning (6.7.25) on Dafnomilis Street in the Lykavittos area, under circumstances still unknown. Neighbors from the opposite building noticed flames coming from the fourth-floor apartment shortly before 03:00 and immediately alerted the Fire Department. However, the fire had already grown significantly, prompting additional reinforcements. A total of 24 firefighters with 6 vehicles, including a specialized boom truck and a water tanker from Vyronas, arrived at the scene to battle the blaze. Meanwhile, a neighbor from across the street continuously sprayed water with his garden hose and shouted warnings to firefighters: ‘Hurry, hurry! The fire is going to the rooftop! It’s spreading upward!’ The resident of the apartment, estimated to be between 65 and 70 years old, was rescued with burns and difficulty breathing and was transported by EKAV ambulance to ‘Gennimatas’ Hospital. A second EKAV ambulance provided first aid to another individual. Firefighting operations continued until at least 05:30 to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties. The fourth-floor apartment at number 38 Dafnomilis, where the fire originated, was completely destroyed. Authorities will investigate whether other units or areas of the building were damaged. Throughout the operation, police cordoned off Dafnomilis Street as residents watched anxiously.
