in

For the third consecutive day, wildfires continue to devastate the island of Chios. Despite significant firefighting efforts, the flames remain uncontrollable and are destroying everything in their path. The fire began at noon on Sunday (22.06.2025), and unfortunately, strong winds are expected today, making the firefighters’ job even more challenging. Emergency messages from 112 Greece keep sounding across various regions of Chios. Around 06:00 AM (24.06.2025), a new alert was issued for the Vessa area, urging residents to evacuate towards Armolia as the fire is dangerously close. The main fronts of the blaze are located near Dafnona and Agios Georgios Sykouses. However, numerous scattered and hazardous fires have erupted throughout the island. As of July 22, nearly 62,000 acres have been scorched since the outbreak on Sunday, with no signs of the flames being easily contained. An official request has been submitted by the municipality of Chios to address the urgent needs caused by the fires. So far, at least 20 villages have been evacuated, livestock and entire fields have burned, along with homes and properties.
