Fire Breaks Out Near Yliko, Two Aircraft Deployed to Combat Blazes

A wildfire erupted in the Yliko area near Thebes on Sunday afternoon (June 22, 2025). Due to strong winds in the region, the fire quickly spread and escalated significantly. Extensive firefighting forces are currently battling the blaze on the ground, assisted by machinery from the Hellenic Army and the Sterea Region. Simultaneously, two PZL firefighting aircraft deployed from Lamia airport are conducting aerial water drops. According to initial estimates, the active fire front spans approximately 200 meters and is heading toward a forested area, raising concerns about further expansion. Firefighters are urgently working to contain the fire before it becomes uncontrollable.
