A wildfire broke out at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, 27 June 2026, in an agricultural-forestry area near Naupaktos in Aetolia-Acarnania, western Greece. As of now, no homes or infrastructure are under threat.
Response Underway
Emergency response includes 50 firefighters, two ground teams from the 6th Emergency Response Unit (EMODE), and 14 fire engines. From the air, two fixed-wing aircraft and one helicopter are actively engaged in suppression efforts.
Local water tankers operated by municipal authorities are providing support. However, aerial operations face challenges due to overhead high-voltage power lines interfering with water-dropping runs.
Monitoring and Investigation
The National Emergency Operations Center (ESKEDIK) is continuously monitoring the fire using drone footage equipped with both optical and thermal imaging.
Meanwhile, the Arson Investigation Unit of the Aetolia-Acarnania Police Directorate has deployed to the site to determine the cause of the blaze.
