A wildfire broke out on Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026, near Lamia in central Greece — specifically at the entrance to the village of Lygaria, close to the Lamia railway lines. The fire ignited in dry grass mixed with accumulated waste and, fueled by strong winds, quickly spread to nearby olive groves.

Local fire services responded urgently, deploying three and then four fire engines to the scene. Two PZL M-18 Dromader firefighting aircraft were placed on standby at Lamia Airport, ready for immediate takeoff. Additionally, the ground unit of the 4th Emergency Response Unit (EMODE) was placed on high alert, according to lamiareport.gr.
