A wildfire broke out near Soufli in the Evros region of northeastern Greece on Friday, 24 July 2026, prompting an emergency response from the Hellenic Fire Service. The blaze ignited just before 2 p.m. in a forested area near Leukimmi, a locality within the municipality of Soufli.
Ground and Air Response
To combat the fire, 32 firefighters were deployed alongside seven fire engines. Two teams of ground-based firefighters from the 7th Emergency Response Unit (EMODE) joined the effort, along with local volunteers and water tankers provided by the Soufli municipality. From the air, three aircraft and one helicopter conducted water-dropping operations.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have activated the Evros Arson Investigation Team to determine the cause of the fire.
