A fire broke out in the Nea Kerasia area of Thessaloniki’s Thermi municipality on Monday, 13 July 2026, prompting an emergency response. The blaze is burning through low vegetation in a semi-rural zone near scattered residential homes — triggering an immediate mobilisation by the Hellenic Fire Service.

Large-Scale Response Underway

Twenty-five firefighters were deployed, including a foot patrol unit from the 2nd Emergency Response and Disaster Management Unit (2nd EMODE), along with seven vehicles. For aerial firefighting, two helicopters were dispatched. In addition, municipal water tankers from the Thermi municipality were activated to support ground operations.

Real-Time Monitoring and Investigation Launched

Throughout the incident, the National Emergency Operations Centre (ESKEDIK) has been receiving continuous live footage from a drone equipped with both optical and thermal imaging cameras. Meanwhile, Thessaloniki’s Arson Investigation Team has been dispatched to the site to determine the cause of the fire.
