Fire Breaks Out in Kallithea Apartment – Elderly Man Threatens to Jump

A fire incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (28.05.2025) in an apartment on Grypari Street in Kallithea, where an elderly man was trapped inside. Neighbors quickly alerted the authorities, and two firefighting vehicles promptly arrived at the scene. The fire rapidly spread, with the elderly man seeking help from the balcony, prompting a call for reinforcements. A total of 14 firefighters with five vehicles eventually reached the location. The elderly man was in panic, saying he wanted to jump, while police officers, firefighters, and neighbors urged him to hold on. Firefighters immediately acted, entering the burning apartment with great bravery and reaching the balcony to ensure the man did not fall. Due to the shock he had endured, the elderly man had become disoriented and refused to follow the firefighters, as thick smoke still surrounded him. The firefighters stayed with him on the balcony until the flames were under control and managed to calm him down. Shortly afterward, an ambulance arrived at the scene, and first aid was administered to the man.
