A wildfire broke out early Friday afternoon (10 July 2026) in Ini, a village within the municipality of Minos Pediadas in Heraklion, Crete — prompting a major response from Greece’s Fire Service.

To tackle the blaze, ground and aerial units were immediately mobilised. This included 42 firefighters, two infantry teams from the 3rd Emergency Response Unit (EMODE), 13 fire engines, and one helicopter for aerial firefighting.

Firefighters are currently engaged in efforts to bring the fire front under control. As of now, there are no reports indicating any threat to inhabited areas.

Strong winds with gusts reaching Force 5 on the Beaufort scale are blowing across the area, complicating containment efforts. Meanwhile, Heraklion’s Investigative Team for Arson Crimes is en route to the site to determine the cause of the fire.
