Fire Breaks Out in Heraklion: Emergency Services on High Alert

Residents of Crete faced wildfires on Tuesday, June 23, 2025, as a fire erupted in the Lower Asites area. Forces from Heraklion rushed to the scene with the aim of quickly bringing the wildfire under control in the forested region. Shortly after 6:00 AM, an emergency message from 112 was broadcast to residents advising them to remain on standby. “Forest fire in the Lower Asites area of the Regional Unit of Heraklion, Crete. Stay prepared and follow the instructions of the authorities.” At this moment, 55 firefighters, including one team from the 3rd Forest Firefighting Unit, are working alongside 23 vehicles and 2 aircraft. Two helicopters are also assisting from the air.
