A wildfire broke out in the Avantas area of Alexandroupoli shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The fire is burning low-lying vegetation.
Emergency Response Underway
Greek Fire Service units were immediately deployed to the scene, using both ground and aerial resources. According to official information, 23 firefighters are on site, alongside a徒步 (foot) unit from the 7th Emergency Response Unit (EMODE) and six fire engines. From the air, one helicopter and three firefighting aircraft are conducting water-dropping operations.
Additional support is being provided by water tankers operated by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
Investigation Launched
Meanwhile, a team from the Evros District’s Arson Investigation Unit has been dispatched to the area to determine the cause of the fire.
