Fire Breaks Out at Wood Processing Plant in Nea Souli, Serres

A large fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon (01.07.2025) in the area of Nea Souli, part of the Municipality of Emmanuel Pappas in Serres, just before 4:00 PM. The blaze started at a wood processing plant where large quantities of timber were stored, prompting a significant response from local firefighting units. Firefighters are currently working to contain the flames, and two helicopters are expected shortly to assist with water drops. Additionally, machinery from the local civil protection department and residents is being used to create firebreaks, aiming to prevent the fire from reaching three nearby animal shelters located in close proximity.
